On the Blog Post WHAT HAVE FOREST BUFFER CONSERVATION & WATERSHED PROTECTION GOT TO DO WITH A MEGA GAS STATION?

ReplyNice website! That was pretty slick of Costco to first get an exemption for the store and then get the huge gas station added to the plan after the exemption for the store was issued. Too bad the Planning Board went along with it. Good luck on your efforts. The last thing we need in Wheaton is less forested green areas.

Replythanks for your comment Maureen. I don't think there is a bad time to amend your soil, but if you want to create a garden you might want to amend in the fall. That will allow the compost to breakdown and you will have great soil in the early spring for your plantings.

ReplyWe have had Tofurkey at Thanksgiving for years. I think taste has improved over time, which might help explain its growing popularity. We will have the vegetarian feast with the wishstix tomorrow. The cost per serving reference surprised me. We paided a lot for our Tofurkey. Even though they are expensive, they were nearly sold out at the store.

ReplyThanks Jewel! Stormwater Magazine, one of my favorite magazines (I hope I don’t sound too geeky.) It’s the only magazine where you can read interesting articles about using “treatment trains” and elegant stormwater management solutions to complex industrial sites. The comment near the end of the NYC article about how naturally occurring microorganisms in the soil metabolizing the hydrocarbons into byproducts of carbon dioxide and water is very relevant to Montgomery County. Healthy soils have an amazing ability to cleanse our polluted stormwater runoff from parking lots, driveways , roads and other potential sources our petroleum/hydrocarbons. I think my next blog will be on the subject of soils.

Providing recycle containers at these events is important and send a message that the Mid County Service Office supports the County Execs recycle goals.. I believe that recycle collection containers were at last year's Taste of Wheaton for the first time. Sometimes though the recycle containers and trash containers get separated and that causes problems (people will not walk to the recycle container if there is a trash can nearby.)
