Metrorail News: Red Line Weekend Track Work

This weekend, Red Line trains will single-track between Takoma and Forest Glen, and between Friendship Heights and Medical Center.

  Between 10 p.m. on Friday and closing on Sunday, Red Line trains will single-track between Takoma and Forest Glen (to allow for platform reconstruction and fiber-optic cable installation) and between Friendship Heights and Medical Center (to allow for third-rail insulator renewal and rail joint elimination for a safer and smoother ride), Metro reports on its website. "Red Line trains between Shady Grove and Glenmont will operate every 24 minutes throughout the weekend. Customers should allow 15 minutes of additional travel time," Metro reported. But, "between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, additional trains will operate between Friendship Heights and New York Avenue stations, providing service about every 12 minutes through …

Metro Probing Why Doors Opened on Moving Train

The Examiner: Incident happened Tuesday morning on the Red Line.

This probably isn't what Metro had it mind when it adopted the slogan "Metro opens doors." The transit agency says it is looking into why the doors of a Red Line train traveling in the direction of Shady Grove opened while the train was moving Tuesday morning, The Washington Examiner reported. The incident occurred a little after 9 a.m. in a tunnel between the Van Ness and Tenleytown stations, The Examiner reported. No one was injured.
