Dance Bethesda Kicks Off With Free Dance Lessons, Parties Friday

Get your groove on at a Bethesda dance studio Friday and catch award-winning performers at Round House Theatre Saturday.

Get your dancing shoes ready. Dance Bethesda is set for this weekend, and the event will kick off Friday night with free dance lessons and parties at downtown Bethesda dance studios from 8 - 10:30 p.m. Step to salsa, rumba, ballroom or Latin at Dance Bethesda Dance Studio's free open house and check out hip-hop, tap, folklore and salsa at Dansez! Dansez!. You can also stop by Du-Shor Dance Studio for free lessons and demonstrations in salsa, swing and tango and the Mindfulness Center for Nia dance. From 6:30 - 9:45 p.m., catch the beat with intro to jazz, intro to hip hop and Afrobeat at the Joy of Motion Dance Center. Call For Entries: Bethesda Essay and Short Story Contest

Winners will receive cash prizes and the chance to see their work in print.

Calling all writers! The Bethesda Urban Partnership and Bethesda Magazine are looking for entries for an essay and short story contest as a part of the 14th Annual Bethesda Literary Festival. Each year, the festival draws novelists, journalists, poets and children’s authors to downtown Bethesda. Check out a video attached to this story of NPR's Michele Norris speaking about her book "The Grace of Silence" at the 2011 festival. This year's event featured writers Thomas Friedman, Marvin and Deborah Kalb, Joby Warrick and Walter Isaacson. Adults and high school students can submit a 500-word essay, and/or a 4,000-word short story on any topic. Gallery B To Showcase Work of Late Artist

Jude Nagel, artist and former Montgomery Blair art teacher and department chair, died in 2011.

Gallery B will showcase the work of late artist and former Montgomery Blair art teacher Jude Nagel during a December exhibition. Nagel was a fixture in the Washington, DC area arts scene, and her paintings and mixed media have been shown at galleries including Target Gallery, Black Rock Center for the Arts, Torpedo Factory, Watergate Gallery and The Circle Gallery. Nagel was also affiliated with Washington's IFA gallery, according to a Bethesda Urban Partnership announcement, and exhibited and sold work through galleries in New York City and in the Southwest. Nagel died of melanoma in 2011 at age 73, according to an obituary published in The Washington Post. She was born in Logansport, Ind., and raised in Washington, graduating from …

Bethesda Art Walk Set For Friday

This month's Art Walk will be held in conjunction with the opening reception for the Trawick Prize 10th Anniversary Exhibition.

It’s the second Friday of the month, so that means downtown Bethesda art galleries will keep their doors open late for the Bethesda Art Walk. Participating galleries will showcase local, national and international artwork in a variety of media from 6-9 p.m. This month’s Art Walk will be held in conjunction with an opening reception for the Trawick Prize 10th Anniversary Exhibition at Gallery B. The special group exhibition and competition is underway to showcase the work of the artists who have taken "Best in Show" for the Trawick Prize, an annual contemporary art competition founded in 2003, over the past 10 years. Of the winners, Baltimore artist Jo Smail took home the Sapphire Award and $10,000 after being named the “best of the best." …

Taste of Bethesda To Hit Woodmont Triangle Oct. 6

The highly anticipated Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club is among the 55 restaurants set to participate.

Get your taste buds ready for the 23rd annual Taste of Bethesda, which will return to the Woodmont Triangle from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. Seasoned festival participants and newbies alike will serve up food to more than 45,000 hungry event goers. Dine well in Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac and Glen Echo this week without breaking the bank.

Bethesda-Chevy Chase Restaurant Week starts Monday, July 16, and lasts through next Sunday, July 22.
