Hoamgar and women's shop Free People will take over the former American Apparel space in May.
A women's fashion boutique chain based in Asia is set to open its doors at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in May. Hoamgar, which sells women's apparel in cities including Beijing, China, and Singapore, Taiwan, will take over the space formerly occupied by the recently-closed American Apparel near the mall's Nordstrom entrance. While it's not clear why the hipster fashion hub closed its doors, Hoamgar will likely be a more sophisticated replacement. The line doesn't appear to have a US-based website, but the Marina Bay Sands shopping center in Singapore describes the clothing as "fresh, elegant yet casual style, ideal for the professional woman." An announcement at its future Westfield location calls the line "exclusive high fashion." Next …
The popular Westfield home goods store and cupcake shop have both closed their doors.

Crate and Barrel, the furniture, kitchenware, and bedroom and bath accessories store that's become a wedding registry destination, has two other locations near Bethesda -- in Tyson's Corner and in upper northwest Washington, DC. YoCake, which serves up cupcakes topped with frozen yogurt, has locations in Rockville and Dupont Circle. The shop also recently began offering the "yokie," a frozen yogurt cookie sandwich. The YoCake closure comes amidst changes at the mall's food court, where renovation began several weeks ago …

A recently released simulation of planned Montgomery Mall renovations has some readers wondering why there are apparently no people of color in the video.
A recently unveiled video simulation of renovations at the Westfield Montgomery Mall has some Patch readers talking, but the discussion isn't about what the mall's new food court and cinema will look like. Rather, some commenters are asking why Westfield does not appear to include people of color in the animation. Westfield responded that no offense was intended. The video "flies over" the mall's expanded food court and the entrance to the ArcLight Cinema planned for the second floor. And, while the animated food court is packed with simulated shoppers, none of them appear to be of color, some readers said. Commenters are taking to Westfield's Facebook page and the comments on a Patch story about the new video to discuss whether diversity …

For God's sake it was not a "parking garage collapse". One small layer shifted out of place. Yes there was a fatality but it was not a parking garage collapse. Typical media hype.   more ›
