The Heroes & Helpers program will help children from Veirs Mill Elementary School.
Montgomery County police officers will pair up with students from Veirs Mill Elementary School to shop for holiday gifts for the children's families at the Wheaton Target on Saturday. The Heroes & Helpers program "helps to foster strong community relationships," according to a statement by the Montgomery County Police Department. With retailers vying for your holiday dollars, stores and malls are pulling out all the stops to lure you into their establishments for Black Friday. So what can you expect from local businesses and malls, if you decide to brave the crowds on one of the busiest shopping days of the year? Find out when Target and other stores at the Wheaton mall will open for the biggest shopping day of the year.
Target in Westfield Wheaton is opening at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. This is the earliest that the nationwide chain has ever opened its stores for Black Friday shopping. Around the country, some Target employees and their family members are protesting the "Thanksgiving Creep" and have started petitions online, asking the store to return to a Friday morning opening time. The rest of the mall stores in Westfield Wheaton will be opening at midnight. This is the second year that Westfield has scheduled a midnight opening. I went to Walmart in Landover Hills on Thursday night to pick up three bikes on sale for my grandchildren. There was a small line when I got there, gradually got larger, but I was in and out in under 30 minutes.
