The health department will need to complete an inspection before the coffee shop re-opens, according to fire and rescue officials.
The East-West Highway Starbucks remains closed following a Friday morning fire in a ceiling fan in the coffee shop's rear bathroom, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. The county health department must complete an inspection before it allows the shop to open, according to Beth Anne Nesselt, a county Fire and Rescue spokeswoman. Responders arrived around 10:13 a.m., Nesselt said, and quickly extinguished the small electrical fire. The office building above the Starbucks was evacuated, and the workers had returned to their desks by about 10:30 a.m. A rapid intervention team was also dispatched, Nesselt said. Residents and patrons of the greater White Flint Metro development will soon have more choices when it comes to dining or grabbing a prescription or a coffee, according to a CityBizList.com report. Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar, Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, CVS, Starbucks and Potomac Valet Dry Cleaners will all open at the North Bethesda Market in 2012, according to the report. The Market houses a Whole Foods, among other storefronts, and the tallest luxury apartment building in Montgomery County, at 24 stories. As residents struggle to cope with the downed power lines and blown transformers courtesy of last night’s lightning blizzard, many hanker after power sanctuaries — outlet oases for their sapped smart phones and laptops. But options are slim for the power-deprived: The snow storm has crippled establishment after establishment, they say, and Pepco’s track record leaves them uneasy and mulling a night's sleep in a nearby hotel. Still, there is one place, an establishment of hustling baristas and trademark ambiance, where local residents are finding power refuge: the Starbucks at 7140 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda.
