A survey by Goucher College finds support on issues from banning assault-style weapons and ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds to fingerprinting and prohibitions on owning weapons for persons who are involuntarily committed.
From bans on assault-style weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines to fingerprinting anyone purchasing a gun, a new poll finds that a majority of Marylanders want stricter state gun laws. Eighty-two percent of those surveyed in a poll conducted by the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center at Goucher College believe those purchasing a gun should be fingerprinted. Homeless services group Bethesda Cares on Friday received 26 gift bags for the community's needy, an act of kindess intended to honor the victims slain in the elementary school massacre in Newtown, CT. The gift bags, for men, women, and children, were given to the group by an anonymous local donor. Each bag contained a name of one of the victims. In the wake of Newtown, people across the nation are honoring the victims with "26 Acts" of kindness, and many are sharing their good deeds on Twitter under the hashtag #26Acts and on a Facebook page that has garnered more than 93,000 "likes." Sales jumped following the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Following the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, sales of bullet proof backpacks are soaring, according to a story in The Washington Post. Bullet Blocker, a company that sells bullet proof tactical gear, saw sales jump from 15 to 20 backpacks a week to 50 to 100 per day, according to the report. Patch contacted several manufacturers, but none returned comment before publication. The Washington Post wrote: In Arizona, a body-armor manufacturer called Amendment II says sales of its bulletproof childrens’ backpacks -- Avengers for boys, Disney Princesses for girls -- have jumped more than 500 percent. Black Dragon Tactical, a survivalist company in New Hampshire, is promoting armored backpack-inserts on its Facebook page.

Wooden angels have been placed outside the Children's Inn at Bethesda's National Institutes of Health in remembrance of the victims killed in the elementary school shooting in Newtown, CT. The Inn provides a "place like home" for seriously ill children being treated at NIH. The angels are painted and decorated, bearing the letters S.H.E.S., for Sandy Hook Elementary School.
