Montgomery County police have no plans to move a Jones Bridge Road speed camera that, a district court judge ruled, is improperly placed.
The Montgomery County Police Department has no plans to remove a speed camera in the 4300 block of Jones Bridge Road that a district court judge ruled was improperly placed. Officer Rebecca Innocenti told Patch that "there will be no specific changes made to the [speed camera] program" and there are "no plans to remove that camera in the area of Jones Bridge [Road]"—between Wisconsin and Connecticut avenues. The ruling resulted from a court session in which a $40 speeding fine—issued on Sept. 5, 2012, with the help of photos from the camera—was invalidated by District Court Judge John Moffett, according to a police department statement disputing the ruling. A $40 speed camera fine issued on Sept. 5, 2012, was invalidated on Monday by the district court, but the county police department disagrees with the invalidation.
A district court judge has ruled that the speed camera in the 4300 block of Jones Bridge Road in Bethesda (between Connecticut and Wisconsin avenues) was improperly placed, according to the Montgomery County Police Department, which said it disagreed with the ruling. A woman was punched in the head after the suspects demanded cash, police said.
Three boys, ages 15 to 17, were charged in an attempted armed robbery on New Year’s Day in the White Flint area, Montgomery County police said Thursday. Officers responded to the 5800 block of Nicholson Lane in North Bethesda at 5:48 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a woman screaming. The 56-year-old woman left White Flint Mall and was walking along Nicholson Lane when three suspects approached her from behind and demanded cash, police said in a news release. One of the suspects punched the woman in the head, according to the release. When the woman screamed, the suspects fled. A schools spokesman said a 17-year-old had been suspended from the Rockville school.
A 17-year-old boy arrested this morning at Col. Zadok Magruder High School was found to be carrying an unloaded handgun, Montgomery County police said in a news release. The teenager was charged as an adult with possession of a weapon on school property and other weapon-related charges, police said. The student is a senior at Magruder High, but was not supposed to be at school on Thursday, Dana Tofig, a county schools spokesman, said in an email. “He was suspended, but I cannot say why,” Tofig wrote. A school resource officer saw the suspended student on school grounds at 7:53 a.m. and told him leave, the release said. Gaithersburg and Montgomery County Police Departments conducted a two day “Holiday Safety” initiative at Lakeforest Mall.
Plain clothed officers from Gaithersburg and Montgomery County police departments arrested 13 people during a two day "Holiday Safety" intitative at Lakeforest Mall, police said Monday afternoon. An increased police presence will provide extra security and pedestrian safety awareness in some of the county's busiest retail centers.
Black Friday shoppers might notice an increased police presence in some of the county’s busiest shopping areas. Beginning Friday through Dec. 23 the Montgomery County Police Department’s annual “Shop With a Cop” campaign will provide extra security in retail areas in all six county police districts. Officers also will distribute 9,000 reusable bright yellow shopping bags, county police Chief J. Thomas Manger said at a news conference on Tuesday in Rockville Town Square. The bags have a drawing of a pair of eyes above the slogan “Can you see me now?” and are part of a Montgomery County pedestrian safety campaign also announced Tuesday. County police and fire/rescue personnel return from week helping Sandy victims in New York, where the situation was described as "Katrina-esque."
On Tuesday afternoon, while Montgomery County and the rest of the nation were paying attention to Election Day, 80 Montgomery County fire/rescue and police personnel unceremoniously returned home from spending an exhausting week assisting Hurricane Sandy victims in New York. The Maryland Task Force 1, made up of local medical workers, rescue experts, engineers and dog handlers with search canines, was assembled Sunday afternoon, Oct. 28, and dispatched to Fort Dix, NJ, to await orders, according to Montgomery County Assistant Chief Scott Graham. Will you donate?
Montgomery County police will celebrate 90 years of service in the county with a community blood and food drive this week. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, residents are invited to the county’s new Public Safety Headquarters at 100 Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg to honor family and friends in the armed forces, law enforcement or fire and rescue services. The American Red Cross in August reported its blood reserve had hit a 15-year low. Walk-in donors are accepted, but online registration is encouraged. Donors are asked to bring a photo ID and two non-perishable food items with them. The food items will be donated to the Mid-County United Ministries Captain Joseph A. Mattingly Food Pantry in Wheaton.

Regarding the cameras taking pictures every few seconds: I wrote to MCPD regarding a ticket I thought I was issued for a vehicle I had traded in. I provided the date and time I saw the camera flash, my license plate #, etc, and that I thought I was doing 38 in the 35 zone.
