Silver Spring Landscape Businesses Among First in New Certification Program

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett recognized the businesses at the program's launch Monday.

Of the seven Montgomery County businesses that are the first to qualify under the new Green Landscape Business Certification Program, four are based in Silver Spring, according to a news release from the county. The certification program is a collaboration between the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and Montgomery College. The program expands eligibility for the Green Business Certification Program beyond businesses with office-based operations to the landscaping sector.  To be certified, a landscape business must meet requirements in these areas: air quality, energy efficiency, waste management and procurement; integrated pest management and plants; water and soil, and …

Reedie Drive Construction Should Finish By Christmas

Montgomery County's Department of Transportation aims to improve pedestrian safety with the streetscaping project.

Have you noticed all the construction work along Reedie Drive between Georgia Avenue and Veirs Mill Road in downtown Wheaton? Montgomery County's Department of Transportation is trying to improve pedestrian safety with concrete medians and islands and with marked crosswalks, according to a report from the Wheaton Redevelopment Program. Sidewalks on that stretch of road are also getting a new look. Joe Callaway, chief of operations for the Wheaton Urban District, wrote in an email to Patch that the streetscaping project began the second week of November and the construction phase should be completed by Christmas. Landscaping will most likely be delayed until the spring, he added.
