Vigilante Coffee Offers World Flavors At Farmers Market

The company offers coffee flavors from around the world at the Kensington Farmers' Market.

Vigilante Coffee Company prides itself for providing the best coffee to its customers, according to the founders, who sell their coffee at the Kensington Farmers' Market. “It’s all about quality and customer service,” Christopher Vigilante, one of the founders of the company, said Saturday.  The company spends more than the fair trade price for the farmers to pick only the ripe coffee cherries. Typically, farmers pick both ripe and unripe coffee cherries because they are paid by weight.  But, Vigilante works directly with the coffee growers to ensure they select only the best coffee cherries. He got his start in the coffee business by accident.  While he was on summer break from studying business at Virginia Tech, Vigilante was working as …

Farmer John Hilker Offers Free-Range Eggs, Produce At Kensington Market

Hilker brings his produce from Pennsylvania to the Kensington Farmers' Market each week.

Every Saturday, farmer John Hilker drives from Rabbit Hill Farm in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania to Kensington Farmers’ Market. Hilker leaves around 4 a.m. and arrives in time to set up and start selling his goods at 8 a.m.  His asparagus and spinach sell fast. “You have to get here early if you want to buy them,” he said. But, don’t worry if you’re not an early bird.  Hilker sells plenty of other produce, including apples, potatoes, sweet potatoes, honey, eggs, and apple cider. His customers’ favorites are the Gold Rush and Pink Lady apples because they are tart with some flavor.  He also sells Granny Smith apples and in the fall you can eat them raw. Special Spicy Sauce Featured At Kensington Farmers Market

At Anna Saint John's stand at the Kensington Farmers' Market, a special sauce is popular among customers.

For over a year, Anna Saint John has been bringing her special sauce, dressings, and other delicacies to the Kensington Farmers' Market.  Saint John, of Silver Spring, calls her special sauce “Srirachachacha” because she said, “We have more chacha than Sriracha.” The peppers are what make up the additional "chacha" of her sauce and the Indonesian-added flavor of garlic, vinegar, sugar, and salt act as the original Sriracha part.  She chose to sell her products at the Kensington Farmers' Market because she wanted it to be “a hub tying market with products that complement other foods.” “I couldn’t live without Anna’s 'Srirachachacha' sauce,” Leslie Bloom, one of her loyal customers, said. Bloom, an author of a seafood cookbook, said her bag …

Always in Season From the Farmers Market: Delicious Olive Oils

All Things Olive offers an array of authentic olive oils, wine vinegars and more.

It all started in a little shop in Paris nearly a decade ago. Lynn Voight and her husband Keith, of Kensington, discovered a "little olive oil store" near their hotel during a trip to Paris in 2001. Voigt said that the experience planted the seed for what has become an avocation for her husband and a full-time job for her. All Things Olive, created in 2004, is the couple's incarnation of the Parisian shop that inspired them to pursue their passion for olive oil. But instead of plying their wares from a charming storefront, the Voights sell their products at local farmers markets. "I'm in about a half dozen farmers markets," Lynn Voight said. "So we get around." Residents in communities such as Bethesda, Olney, Potomac and, of course, …
