Dick's Sporting Goods Suspends Some Gun Sales After Newtown Shooting

The company says it has "suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide."

"Modern sporting rifles" are off the shelves at Dick's Sporting Goods stores across the country only a few days after the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.  The recently opened Dick's Sporting Goods in Wheaton did not carry the rifles even before what happened last week in Connecticut, according to a customer service representative at the store. Dick's Sporting Goods announced this statement to media Tuesday morning, according to The Huffington Post: "Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide." I didn't know that Dick's was opening this weekend. What is the deal with the delayed opening of Costco, which is above the Dick's store? I had heard (perhaps unsubstantiated) that the concrete floor was cracking, and this was why the opening was delayed from October until February. If that's the case, why would the store below the cracking floor open?   more ›

They wanted a soft (i.e., not too busy) opening for a little while. They're open, but the grand opening--complete with Redskins player--will be next weekend (Oct 27) I was told tonight.   more ›
