Bites Nearby: Cupcakes and Mac n' Cheese at Silver Spring's Sweet & Cheesy

Anyone with a hunger for something sweet or savory got a chance to satisfy both cravings at CakeLove on Saturday, Feb. 16 in downtown Silver Spring. The owner of the bakery and the owner of CapMac food truck teamed up for the Sweet & Cheesy event. Customers tried out pasta dishes and taste cake icing samples. "What we want to do is sell our cream cheese icings to people, not just on our cupcakes, but in pint size containers and 4-oz. mini-tubs," said Warren Brown, the owner and founder of CakeLove. The "from scratch" bakery moved from its Ellsworth Drive address to 8512 Fenton St. about two years ago. There is seating at the new location where people can stay and enjoy their treats. Georgetown Cupcake Faces Lien Over Unpaid Taxes

The cupcake shop's Georgetown location owes about $189,000 in taxes to the District of Columbia.

Updated 3:10 p.m. Georgetown cupcake has paid its taxes, according to Washingtonian. “Georgetown Cupcake has paid its taxes to the DC Office of Tax and Revenue in full, and the Office of Tax and Revenue has acknowledged receipt of payment,” said co-owner Katherine Kallinis, in an email to Washingtonian. Kallinis called the issue a "misunderstanding." Original Post Georgetown Cupcake's Georgetown location at 1209 Potomac St. NW was issued a tax lien for some $189,282.71 in taxes and penalties owed from August, September and October, the Washington Business Journal reports. Cupcakes Benefit Bethesda Breast Cancer Awareness Group

Fraiche Cupcakery's pink frosted cupcakes will benefit Bethesda non-profit, For 3 Sisters.

Looking for a sweet way to donate to local breast cancer charities this October? Look no further than Fraiche Cupcakery. Launched by Potomac native Nina Deva, Fraiche Cupcakery will donate 50 percent of the proceeds of the shop’s pink frosted cupcakes to Bethesda non-profit For 3 Sisters. The group was launched by Bethesda firefighter Marshall Moneymaker, who lost three sisters to breast cancer. Known as the “Pink Fireman,” Moneymaker and his team recently raised more than $20,000 for breast cancer research during the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. Cupcake ATM: Would You Use It?

Cupcake ATMs—a novel idea, but would you buy a cupcake from an automated machine?

The latest saga of the cupcake trend is the automated cupcake machine, Georgetown Patch recently reported. Last spring, the Sprinkles Cupcakes store of Beverly Hills installed an automated cupcake dispensary, Beverly Hills Patch reported. Then, The Washington Post reported that the Sprinkles Cupcakes store in Georgetown could be next in line to receive one of the bright pink machines. The Post's report read like a space-age prediction of a sweet and rosy future: "Customers can walk up to the machine, which looks like a sherbet-colored ATM, select one of about eight daily popular flavors, swipe their credit card ($4 each) and receive an individually packaged cupcake."
