A collection of food trucks in Montgomery County organized a collective website, www.mocofoodtrucks.com.
The grown-up lunch line is just as likely to be outside, on the corner of a busy intersection as it is inside of a strip mall restaurant. (And it's been that way for years now.) And while residents and workers in places lousy with food trucks may enjoy the variety and speed of mobile food offerings, keeping up with what's available and when can be a challenge. A new website, www.mocofoodtrucks.com, organizes about a dozen food trucks within the county and includes a comprehensive calendar of when some of the trucks will be in which area. Here's how the organizers describe the site: "This site will tell you the three "Ws" of food trucks: Where we are, Who we are and What we serve. Our trucks operate throughout Montgomery County, MD from …

Bruce Variety owners say they're not concerned about a new store in their old space.
Owners of Bruce Variety say they're not worried about the prospect of losing business to a similar variety store opening in their former location. After 60 years on Arlington Road, high rents forced the Bethesda fixture out of its Bradley Shopping Center space in January. The community rallied for the store, and owners said the support inspired them to find a new location in Bethesda. Bruce Variety will open its doors at 8011 Woodmont Ave. by the end of March. But it's looking like Bruce's will have a little friendly competition when it opens in its new space. Bethesda blogger Robert Dyer broke the news that a store dubbed 'Bradley Party and Variety' is moving into the Arlington Road storefront, and Bethesda Now reported that Strosniders, …

Leonard Riggio has made a bid for the store's retail assets, including locations close to Potomac.
Barnes & Noble Inc. Chairman Leonard Riggio is seeking to buy the bookselling giant's retail assets, CNN Money reported. According to the report, the bookstores have struggled as the popularity of e-readers increases. Holiday sales at the company's bookstores and websites dropped nearly 11 percent last year, according to the report. Barnes & Noble said it has put together an independent committee to review the proposal and to oversee any negotiations, The Los Angeles Times reported. The company in January said it would close some of its retail stores over the next 10 years, though a spokeswoman told Patch that there were no plans to close the Bethesda location. The potential sale wouldn't include the division that oversees Barnes & Noble's…

Freezing temperatures have caused Rita's Crepes to close temporarily.
Rita's Crepes has shuttered temporarily, according to a notice posted on the popular Bethesda Row crepe stand at Bethesda and Woodmont avenues. Consistent freezing temperatures have caused the stand's water lines to malfunction, according to the sign. "We will be back when things change," read the notice. The sign encouraged patrons to visit Rita's Crepes at the Bethesda Central Farm Market, held Sundays at Bethesda Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The kiosk, run by Annandale resident Rita Douglass, has been serving up the sweet and savory treats to hungry Bethesda Row shoppers since 2009. The owner of the former Box Bar is back and planning a live music concept for the Old Georgetown Road space after a recent re-branding effort failed, according to blogger Robert Dyer and a Bethesda Now report. Dyer broke the news Wednesday that an effort to re-brand the former Hooters-style sports bar as a family-friendly eatery featuring Dry Fried Wings had gone south, with the restaurant appearing closed in recent weeks. Bethesda Now confirmed the news and reported that former Box Bar owner Jason McCarther bought the space back from George Farrell, the short-lived owner who re-launched the restaurant last month with a high-profile kickoff event featuring civil rights activists, Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and former Republican …
