Harris Teeter In, Dunkin' Donuts Out: Bethesda's Month in Food

A roundup of the top food headlines this month in Bethesda.

February was a newsy month in the Bethesda food scene. Patch broke the news this month that Harris Teeter has signed a lease to be the grocery tenant at a new mixed-use development at 8300 Wisconsin Ave. The new grocery store is expected to open in 2015.  Also this month, we reported that Dunkin' Donuts is closing its Bethesda Avenue location after Bethesda Row management company Federal Realty did not renew their lease, which expires in May. The coffee shop has two new downtown Bethesda locations in the works. There was more news out of Friendship Heights from celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio, Bethesda favorite Persimmon re-opened with a new look, Aroma Espresso debuted at the Montgomery Mall, and the new Prohibition-style bar and grill …

Brickside Opens on Cordell

The much-anticipated restaurant is open for business and is planning a grand opening celebration Feb. 8.

The much-anticipated Brickside Food & Drink opened its doors to customers today at 4866 Cordell Ave. The restaurant was launched by the owners of Adams Morgan’s Grand Central and Villa Mozart Restaurant in Fairfax.  The Prohibition-style bar is "bolstered with a vintage, distillery atmosphere unlike anything in the Montgomery County neighborhood," reads a statement released by the restaurant. “We wanted to make a place where you can get together with the guys, impress a date, hang out with co-workers, bring the family or watch games and still have great food and drink options,” said Grand Central co-owner Brian Vasile, the restaurant's general manager, in a statement. If they also featured authentic Prohibition-era music, I'd be interested, otherwise it's nothing special... just another "theme" sport bar with the same old head-pounding rock or pop every other place has.   more ›
