Wheaton Costco Gas Station Hearing Scheduled for March

The Stop Costco Gas Coalition is concerned that the special exception hearing will be too soon for the group to present a strong response to Costco's application.

Opponents of the proposed Costco gas station at Westfield Wheaton have written two letters to the Board of Appeals for Montgomery County, requesting a delay of the hearing for Costco's new special exception application. The Board of Appeals has issued a notice that the hearing is scheduled for March 11, 15, 18, and 22 at 9:30 a.m. in the Stella B. Werner Council Office Building, Second Floor Davidson Memorial Hearing Room, at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville. (See PDF attached to this article.) Everyone of your points are great but have no solid proof. You are just guessing at what could happen. We need more business and employment in Wheaton/Kensington. As to the question of my residence I live in Kensington 20895 and have since 1969. I love our town but hate what it has become. We need progress not protests. Montgomery County Council Seeks New Member for Board of Appeals

Deadline for application is Dec. 5.

  The Montgomery County Council is looking for applicants to fill a partial term on the Montgomery County Board of Appeals. The Board of Appeals holds all-day weekly meetings each Wednesday and work sessions every other week, deciding issues such as: Applications for special exceptions; appeals from decisions made by other Montgomery County government agencies and variance requests from Zoning Ordinance development standards. Board members work approximately 15-25 hours per week, and are compensated $14,510 annually (except the chair, who receives $20,508.) While county law states that no more than three members of the same political party can serve on the board, the current make-up (one Republican, two Democrats and one who declined to …

Kensington Council Discusses Town, HPC Permitting Regulations

At the Kensington town council meeting Monday night, the council members discussed permitting regulations for the town and Historic Preservation Commission.

At Monday night’s regularly scheduled Kensington council meeting, council members unanimously approved a request to support a county board of appeals case.  According to Mayor Peter Fosselman, Mark and Patience Ball, of Kensington, applied to the town to make a small change regarding fencing to a previously approved permit for construction on their property. The town approved this change, but Fosselman says the Balls neglected to bring the change to the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) because they weren’t aware they needed to.   The HPC did not approve the project, for which the town wrote a memo of support a few months ago, Fosselman said, so the Balls are appealing the decision.
