Four Extricated After Two-Car Beltway Crash

A man was transported to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries following a collision on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway.

A two-car accident left a man seriously injured and temporarily shut down the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway near the Connecticut Avenue exit Thursday afternoon. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded around 2:46 p.m. and began to clear the scene at 3:18 p.m., said Beth Anne Nesselt, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokeswoman. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue evaluated five patients between the two vehicles, four of whom needed to be extricated, Nesselt said. One man suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, Nesselt said. This is very dangerous for there to be injuries in an automobile accident and refuse a trip to the hospital to be checked out. I was rear ended a number of years ago now going to a cemetary in Anne Arundel county to place a wreath on my wife's grave. Had a stiff and sore neck and shoulder for almost 4 months after that. Mother of Boy Struck By Car Disputes Police Action

A Bethesda woman says police initially did not investigate the accident, though her son was injured. Police say the family didn't cooperate.

The mother of a 9-year-old boy who was hit by a car on River Road last week says a Montgomery County police officer failed to adequately investigate the incident and she will file a complaint. Police say the family would not speak to the officer at the scene. The boy’s mother, Marina Bowsher, told Patch that though her son was injured, an officer told her he couldn’t find evidence of an injury, didn’t file a police report and threw away his notes. Montgomery County police say the family declined medical treatment and didn’t allow them to speak with the boy at the scene, leaving them with no information to file a police report. Every time I have encountered the aftermath of an accident the police have been on the scene and were very thorough in their investigations of both parties involved. When I was personally involved a number of years back now Montgomery County police did an excellent job in fact gathering. I applaud the County police for their work!!!   more ›

Update: Police Identify Driver in Pedestrian Collision on Summit Avenue

Both victims were transported to Suburban Hospital for their injuries.

Update, 5:15 p.m.: Montgomery County police are still investigating the pedestrian collision along Summit Avenue on Sunday morning, but have identified the driver and the pedestrians. Mary Ann Harrington, 68, of the 21000 block of Father Hurley Boulevard in Germantown, was travelling northbound on Summit Avenue in her 2003 Hyundai Sonata, when police said the car left the roadway stricking two pedestrians on the sidewalk. Police don't know how or why the car left the roadway. Harrington was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police also identied the pedestrians as John Richard Whalen, 77, of the 9900 block of Cable Drive in Kensington and his wife, Dorothy Whalen, 74, of the same address. Investigators are …
