Patch Picks: Earth Day Events

Friday, April 22 is Earth Day. Here's a list of activities taking place in and around town.

It's never too soon to learn about preserving the environment. Bring the family to downtown Silver Spring to participate in the Earth Day activities. Learn about seed starting, recycling and rain gardens. (April 22)

From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., stop by the to donate gently used items in exchange for items brought by other people. The event costs $10, but all proceeds will be donated to non-profit organizations that focus on environmental issues. (April 22)

Join Potomac Conservancy along the C&O Canal for a day of environmental stewardship. Head to River Center at Lock 8 to pick up trash, prune vegetation along trails, and repair the towpath and trails during this Earth Day. Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate. (April 22)

Free Coffee for Using Reusable Mug: Head to your nearest Starbucks for a free cup of Joe (or tea)... that is if you bring in your own mug. Don't have a reusable mug? Well, all to go tumblers will be 20 percent off for Earth Day. (April 22)

Pacers Running Stores is sponsoring this Earth Day Race (taking place on Saturday, April 30), which will benefit the Nature Conservancy. Participants will receive organic t-shirts.
