Get Your Exterior Painting Done Before Wintertime in Maryland

Well, as we suspected, winter will make its way to Maryland and the DC and Baltimore metro areas (again). Why don’t we live closer to the equator? But, here’s some good news: there’s still time to get your exterior painting completed and protect your home’s exterior from the harsh, cold weather. New exterior paint can help keep the bad stuff out and the good stuff in; it can also give your home a great new look!

Regarding what a few painters around the US say about the “painting seasons,” Lee Wallender on About.com notes: “Some painters are like the U.S. Postal Service: ‘Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night’ will prevent them from painting your house. If I heard a professional painter talk like that, I would pass on him. It’s just not possible to paint during all seasons. So what do they say?

In the cold, snowy clime of Minnesota, you will not (or should not) find painters working at all during the winter. It’s just too cold for the paint to cure. And if you do try, you may find that the paint flakes off. Instead, this is the time for interior painting.

They say that even the low-temperature premium paints don’t make a difference. A professional in Eastern Massachusetts even backs off from exterior painting around October 1st.”

Here in Maryland and the Baltimore and DC metros area there’s still time to get your painting done, but don’t delay. Winter will be here before we know it!
