Montgomery to Feel Excessive Heat

The National Weather Service has issued a heat watch. And not just any heat watch, an excessive heat watch.

Before humidity enters the equation, temperatures are set to climb to about 100 degrees in Montgomery County today, according to NWS. The heat index, a measure of temperature that takes humidity into account, is 110 degrees.

An excessive heat watch means there will be a prolonged period of hot temperatures, according to NWS, creating a dangerously hot situation. The watch is in effect through Friday.

To stay safe in the heat:

• Water, water water. Drink plenty of it.
• If you don't have air conditioning, visit one of the Montgomery County Public Library System locations to cool down.
• Check on your elderly neighbors, and those who don't have air conditioning.
• Know the symptoms of heat-related illnesses: dry, red skin, convulsions and disorientation, according to the Maryland Department of Health. Also be aware: a person can feel fine one minute, and become seriously ill the next. If you feel any of the symptoms, try a cool bath or use wet towels to cool down and call 911.
