MCPS Now Tweeting in Spanish

@MCPSEspanol allows schools to reach out to Spanish-speaking families.

Montgomery County Public Schools launched a new Twitter account this month, aiming to reach the county's growing Spanish-speaking population.

You can follow @MCPSEspanol for school news and information in Spanish.

The number of MCPS students in English as a second language programs has nearly doubled in the past decade, according to the schools. Superintendent Joshua Starr said the new Twitter account allows MCPS to communicate with an increasing number of families.

"Twitter has been a very effective way for the school district to engage our community and keep people informed about what is going on at MCPS," Starr said in a statement. "MCPSEspanol will allow us to better engage our Spanish-speaking families as we seek to improve community engagement across the district."

The school district also tweets under @MCPS, and Starr has his own account, @MCPSSuper.
