Leggett to Walk with Kensington Parkwood Elementary Students Wednesday

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will highlight the need for safe routes to school on "Walk to School Day" 2013.

Kensington Parkwood Elementary's "pool to school" program will get a high-profile boost Wednesday when Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett joins students on Walk to School Day. 

Students throughout the county will particiapte in a variety of events that highlight the need for safe walking and biking routes to school. 

At Kensington Parkwood, "school pool" matches parents of kids who attend the same school and want the students to walk or bike to school together.

Maryland Del. Al Carr, a parent of a kensington Parkwood student, Councilman Roger Berliner and Montgomery County Board of Education member Shirley Brandman are expected to join Leggett, along with Kensington Parkwood Principal Barbara Liess and other local officials. 

The walk begins at the corner of Saul and Wildwood Roads at 9:05 a.m.
