Van Hollen Votes Yes on Debt Deal

Last night, the House passed a bill to cut spending and raise the debt ceiling.

Last night, the House passed a bill that will raise the debt ceiling until 2013 and cut $2.1 trillion in federal spending. The Senate will vote on the issue today at noon.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen, of Kensington, was one of 95 Democrats who voted for the bill. Many of them expressed grave concerns about the plan but voted for it to avoid forcing the U.S. to default on its debt.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords made an emotional return to the House floor to vote for the bill, and Van Hollen wrote on Twitter: "God bless @Rep_Giffords. We love you."
