Mayor Seeking Volunteers for Counsel

Representatives from every street would provide ideas, feedback.

Mayor Peter Fosselman has created a town advisory counsel, and he's looking for volunteers from every street to join it.

The Mayor's Counsel would meet quarterly to advise the mayor and Council about neighborhood issues and town policies. Members of the business community are also encouraged to join.

Fosselman said he had the idea for the panel during the spring campaign, when many residents said they didn't have time to attend meetings and felt distanced from local government.

Councilmember Lydia Sullivan said at Monday's meeting that she doesn't see the value in creating the counsel.

"Frankly, it seems a little political to me," she said. "It seems like a campaign maneuver."

Fosselman said the purpose of the Mayor's Counsel is to increase community engagement and improve Kensington's government.

If you'd like to volunteer for the Mayor's Counsel, you can e-mail Fosselman here or call the town at 301-949-2424.
