Kensington to Install LED Lights on Howard Avenue

New fixtures will be purchased with state grant money.

The Town of Kensington is planning to purchase and install new energy-efficient light fixtures for Howard Avenue's street lamps, using money from a state grant.

Town Manager Sanford Daily said the $11,000 grant from the Energy Administration will pay for 11 LED light fixtures on Howard between Armory Avenue and the  

Daily said the new lights will operate at lower wattages than the existing ones, but that the town is still calculating how much money it will save in the switch.

He said the town initially looked at hiring a contractor for the project but, with only $11,000 on hand, found it would be cheaper to buy the lights and have town staff install them, perhaps with help from the . 

Ideally, the project will be finished in time for the holidays, Daily said.
