Costco and Westfield Meet with Neighbors Tonight

The store's representatives will discuss the proposed gas station.

Representatives from Costco and Westfield will , hosting a question-and-answer session on the proposed gas station planned for the Wheaton site.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at the .

The store, planned to open in 2013, will receive $4 million from Montgomery County to help with construction.

The meeting tonight will discuss a proposed eight-pump gas station at the store, with presentations from Costco and a panel of community members, followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.

The store's future site is not zoned for a gas station, and Costco has filed a request for a special exception from the county in order to build one. After , the Office of the Hearing Examiner will take up the request on Feb. 24.

Last month, to discuss the future store's impact on traffic, polution and quality of life. The county required Costco to host that meeting in order to receive the $4 million subsidy. Tonight's meeting is not a condition of the subsidy.

The proposed station would serve 16 cars at a time and has sparked . The group has opposed the subsidy since the spring.
