Board of Ed Will Discuss Capital Improvements Tonight

Recommended projects include controversial middle school.

The Montgomery County Board of Education will discuss Superintendent Joshua Starr's capital improvements recommendations at a meeting tonight, including .

The meeting, at which there will be no public comment, starts at 6 p.m. in the Board's .

Last week, Starr unveiled his CIP recommendations, totaling about $1.5 billion over five years. Tonight, the Board of Education will host a worksession on the proposed projects.

Next, the Board will host public hearings Nov. 10 and 14, and then vote on whether to approve the projects Nov. 17. The County Council has final say on the CIP budget.

The process of approving a future school on Rock Creek Hills Park has stirred controversy among neighbors since the spring. Community members have and failing to engage residents, and the state's Open Meetings Act Compliance Board ruled that  during the site-selection process.

The Rock Creek Hills Citizens Association voted last month to continue its opposition to the school, and members have said they plan to testify before the Board when it takes up the issue.
