Update: Basement Fire Drives Elderly Woman from Kensington Home

The damage is estimated at $400,000, according to a Kensington fire official.

 

Kensington fire officials have determined that an electrical problem triggered a basement fire in a home that forced out an elderly woman and her caregiver.

The damage to the woman’s home, located at 4005 Glenrose St., was estimated at $400,000, Kensington Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jayme Heflin said.

Firefighters arriving on the scene about 3:15 p.m. found a basement engulfed in flames and two occupants who had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The elderly woman and her caregiver aren't able to live in the home and it is unclear what type of housing assistance they may have received at this time.
