Update: Police Identify Driver in Pedestrian Collision on Summit Avenue

Both victims were transported to Suburban Hospital for their injuries.

Update, 5:15 p.m.: Montgomery County police are still investigating the pedestrian collision along Summit Avenue on Sunday morning, but have identified the driver and the pedestrians.

Mary Ann Harrington, 68, of the 21000 block of Father Hurley Boulevard in Germantown, was travelling northbound on Summit Avenue in her 2003 Hyundai Sonata, when police said the car left the roadway stricking two pedestrians on the sidewalk. Police don't know how or why the car left the roadway.

Harrington was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police also identied the pedestrians as John Richard Whalen, 77, of the 9900 block of Cable Drive in Kensington and his wife, Dorothy Whalen, 74, of the same address.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.  Callers may remain anonymous.

Original Post, 11:50 a.m.: Two pedestrians were hit by a vehicle Sunday morning at Summit Avenue and Prospect Street in Kensington.

According to WJLA, the pair was struck at the intersection around 10:30 a.m.

The victims, described as elderly, were taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Police closed off part of the roadway following the incident. The driver is said to have remained on scene.

Three weeks ago, a 93-year-old man after being struck by three cars on Newport Mill Road.
