UPDATE: Tree Falls on House, Takes Down Power Lines

The family has been displaced.

Update, April 17, 2:30 p.m.: A family has been displaced as a result of a tree that fell on their home in the 9800 block of Kensington Parkway during Saturday's intense weather system that lashed the region with rain and high winds.

"There was minor damage to the roof and top floor of the house," said Assistant Chief Scott Graham, a spokesman with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

Original post, April 16, 6:08 p.m.: Montgomery County firefighters responded to a neighbor's call reporting that a large tree had fallen on a home in the 9800 block of Kensington Parkway, according to spokesman Capt. Oscar Garcia.

The tree brought down power lines and hit the house, Garcia said, adding that a request for a building inspector was made to ascertain the damages to the home. It is not known at this time if the family will be displaced.

No injuries have been reported.

"We've got big trees in our back yard that we always worry about," said neighbor Mike Wilkenson, adding that high wind storms during the summer had not done this damage.

The street is without power.
