Thunderstorm Watch No Longer in Effect

Pepco is reporting some outages throughout the county.

Update, 9:31 p.m.: Power has come back on for a swath of homes in the upcounty area, with only a few outages continuing to be reported there.

Several homes in the Silver Spring area, however, are still without power, with 172 customers affected in Zip code 20901.

The thunderstorm watch that was in effect this evening is now over.

Update, 7:43 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Montgomery County and several other areas of the state until 9 p.m. Sunday.

Pepco is reporting outages in the downcounty areas of Silver Spring and the upcounty areas around Darnestown, North Potomac, Gaithersburg and Germantown and Olney. The largest number of outages are in the 20876 Zip code, with 1,159 reported, as of 7:43 p.m.

Original Post, 4:39 p.m: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning and a tornado warning for Montgomery County.

The areas most affected are excpected to include Germantown, Poolesville, Damascus and I-270 north of Germantown. Winds could get up to 70 mph.

Residents are urged to seek safe shelter indoors until the storm passes and remain alert for any additional warnings.
