Montgomery County Spent Millions in Overtime Hours for 9-1-1 Call Center

County Executive Isiah Leggett says he will assist in making changes.

Since 2002, sworn police officers have collectivley worked thousands of overtime hours in the Emergency Call Center, costing Montgomery County more than $4 million.

In Montgomery County, a sworn police officer earns $63 per hour at the call center, which is almost double the rate a civilian would make working in the same department, according to figures compiled and reported by ABC7 News.

Police Chief J. Thomas Manager said that sometimes the hours could be difficult to work, and qualified candidates are hard to come by.

As of July of 2011, civilians have been working overtime in the call center, ABC7 News reports.
