'Find My iPhone' Helps Nab Theft Suspects

Police say two men stole a truck and burglarized cars.

After a Kensington man got his iPhone stolen overnight, he used a locator application to lead officers to two suspects, Montgomery County Police said.

Police are holding 31-year-old Daniel Covey and 54-year-old Michael Rigby in connection with the Tuesday night incident, which officers say was part of a spree of car burglaries and theft.

The victim went out to his truck on Elrod Road late Tuesday night to discover that his iPhone and charger had been stolen, and he spotted a man rummaging through a nearby car before fleeing, according to police.

He called MCPD and, once officers arrived, used the "Find My iPhone" app on his iPad to track the stolen gadget. Officers used that information to locate Covey and Rigby, who fled on foot before getting into a stolen Toyota Tundra, according to police.

The men were also carrying backpacks containing burglary tools and other stolen goods, police said. They both face charges of car theft, attempted car theft, possession of burglary tools and multiple counts of theft, according to police.
