Live Wires, Brush Fire Outside Mormon Temple

Power was out on the 9700 block of Stoneybrook Drive for an hour.

A transformer explosion near the Mormon Temple Thursday afternoon caused a small brush fire and an hour-long power outage.

The live utility wires that fell following the transformer explosion ignited the brush and grass, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Capt. Oscar Garcia.

The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and county firefighters responded to the 9700 block of Stoneybrook Drive at around 2:35 p.m. on Thursday. Pepco also was called to turn off power, and the block was without power for about an hour, Garcia said.
