Screams Scare Off Would-Be Carjacker

Suspect threatened victim in the parking lot of the Montgomery Village Plaza shopping center.

Montgomery County Police are on the lookout for a man who got into a woman’s vehicle in Montgomery Village on Monday night and tried to carjack her at knifepoint before her screams frightened him off.

The adult female victim was in the parking lot of the Montgomery Village Plaza—off Contour and Lost Knife roads—a few minutes before 7:30pm when an unknown male entered the passenger-side door and brandished a knife, police said.

When the victim screamed, the suspect fled on foot into a wooded area near Goshen Road, police said.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male, 5’2” or 5’3” tall, weighing 130 to 160 pounds and wearing dark clothing.

Anyone with information can call the 6th District station at 240-773-5700 or MCPD’s anonymous tip line, 240-773-TIPS (8477).

The shopping center does have private security, and they were on the scene last night. I think it's important to remember that this entire incident took but maybe a few seconds.

There are certain areas that seem more crime ridden than others. Perhaps the merchants at Montgomery Village Plaza could pool their resources and hire off duty Montgomery County Police officers to patrol in and around their businesses.

Wait, the shopping center has its own security?! If thats the case, WHY are cars allowed to park on the fire lane?? esp at the bar, you always see parked cars illegally parked. Why has crime gone up and not down? I have never seen any security at all. Montgomery Mall is better and safer than this shopping center, and thats saying something!

MD, it seems like you're referring to the Montgomery Village Center. The Montgomery Village PLAZA is the shopping center facing Lakeforest mall, with the Trader Joe's, Wendy's and Marshalls, etc.

Whether seconds, minutes, hours! That area still has had a 'notorious' reputation and 'high crime' for years! And such only got worse after the construction of the Transit Center...'Party Central' for criminal activity.
