Where Were You During Yesterday's Quake?

Tell us your experiences.

Kensington resident Ana Harney was at work at restaurant in Chevy Chase when the ground began to move.

“One second, everything was fine, and the next second, everything was shaking,” Harney said. “Some of the glasses fell on the ground.”

The quake --  -- was a shock for diners and staff alike at the restaurant, located on the second floor of the Chevy Chase Metro building. “People literally ran outside of our restaurant in case anything happened to the building,” Harney said.

Heading home after the rattler, Harney boarded a crowded Metro train traveling at reduced speeds to head back to her car, parked near the Bethesda Metro. It took about 15 minutes to travel just to the next station, Harney said.

“It’s packed all the way to the doors and people are really quiet,” Harney said after leaving the Metro.

Tampa, Fla. resident Amanda Wills was signing a lease on a new home in North Bethesda when the home began to shake. Wills, an employee at the National Naval Medical Center, was staying at the Hyatt in downtown Bethesda as she secured housing before moving to the area.

At first, she thought it may have been construction work. Then, the earth began to move more, and she saw her new neighbors outside in the street. “I thought, they have earthquakes here?” Wills said.

More stories came in via Twitter yesterday. User @Capitolvet tweeted, "Shaken and stirred! Really shook our house in Kensington for 20 -30 seconds."

Even more users vented their frustrations about the gaps in phone service immediately after the quake, including @maggysterner, who reported that with phones down, everyone at her workplace was using Facebook chat to check on their friends and families.
