SPEAK OUT: Toll Lanes On The American Legion Bridge?

The idea of adding toll lanes on the congested bridge was floated at a recent meeting between Fairfax and Montgomery officials, The Gazette reports.

Would you use toll lanes on the American Legion Bridge if they could save you time on your morning or evening commute?

Several Montgomery and Fairfax County officials say they’d support a proposal to add toll lanes to the congested bridge that connects the two counties, modeled after Virgina’s HOT Lanes, The Gazette reported.

The proposed lanes would be set aside for carpoolers, commuters willing to pay a toll, and bus service that would connect Bethesda and Tyson's Corner, according to The Gazette.

The lanes were suggested during a Wednesday meeting between Fairfax and Montgomery officials by members of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board. They would be intended to help combat congestion at what regional transportation officials call one the “worse bottlenecks” for commuters in the region, The Gazette reports.

Neither Maryland or Virginia have plans in the works to physically expand the bridge, according to The Gazette.
