Power Outages Reported in Parts of Kensington

High Wind Warning in effect from 2:00-7:00pm; Pepco advises more outages possible.

Earlier today more than 1,0oo customers in parts of Kensington were reported to be without power, centered in North Kensington near Plyers Mill Road and Jennings Road in the Stephen Knolls section.

Power outages were first reported this morning.  According to Pepco spokesperson Clay Anderson, the outages were caused by last night's rain and wind, causing tree branches to fall which snapped power lines.

Anderson said stronger winds are on the way, which combined with wet soil will likely cause more limbs and trees to fall, again creating outages. "We could see winds in excess of 50 miles per hour this afternoon. The event will be similar to last Saturday... but today we have thunderstorms moving in, further exacerbating the problem," said Anderson.

Winds are expected to be strongest between 2:00 and 5:00 pm, said Anderson.
