National Weather Service: Potential for Flash Flooding Friday in DC Area

Rain could total 6 inches with excessive runoff in Montgomery County.

As Tropical Storm Andrea nears the Florida coast, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for the Washington, DC region, including Montgomery County.

Rain expected Friday could total up to 6 inches, NWS said, with excessive runoff potentially leading to flash flooding in low-lying areas and small streams. Heavy downpours are most likely between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

A flash flood watch is the first alert that predicted rain could lead to flash flooding. A flash flood warning is issued when rain and flooding are already underway or coming soon.
