Maryland Delegate Questions Pepco

Al Carr's letter attempts to resolve the cause of the Kensington substation fire.

A District 18 delegate wrote a letter to Pepco posing many questions about the that caused thousands of power outages in the area.

Delegate Al Carr's letter directed to Pepco Region President, Thomas H. Graham was a follow-up to a Jan. 28 conference call with Graham. Carr sent the letter to other District 18 delegates, Mayor Peter Fosselman, County Council Member Valerie Ervin and several others.

While Carr posed questions such as, "When was the substation built?" "How reliable has the station been over the past five years?" and "What is the process for inspecting substations?" one question stood out among the rest: "What was the root cause of the failure of the Kensington substation?"

It is still unknown as to what caused the fire and when restorations will be complete, according to Pepco Media Relations Manager Bob Hainey.

"The investigation continues, and it looks like its going to be at least another week before we have anything definite," Hainey said in reference to what caused the substation fire.
