AUDIO: Anti-Sector Plan Group Issues Robocall

Committee To Save Kensington advocates scaling back the plan's heights and densities.

Many Kensington residents got a robocall from a group called Committee To Save Kensington on Tuesday night, informing them of the County Council's impending vote on the sector plan and advocating scaling back the plan's heights and densities.

Theresa Rickman, Chevy Chase View resident and group member, said the call went out to about 5,300 numbers in and around Kensington.

Rickman said there are about 50 people in Committee To Save Kensington, and they have been meeting weekly to discuss their concerns with the plan's scale.

"The more we found out about the Kensington Sector Plan, the more worried we got," she said.

Rickman said that while some consider issuing robocalls invasive, the group found it to be cheaper and more effective than mailing out flyers.

Committee To Save Kensington's website, SaveKensington.com, asks residents to call or write the County Council and implore members to reduce the scope of the plan.

Here's a transcript of the call:

Hi. This is your neighbor. I live in Kensington, too. Probably for many of the same reasons you do: good schools and a friendly small-town atmosphere.

But lately I've been really worried about the Kensington Sector Plan. The County Council is getting ready to vote on it. If the people behind the sector plan get their way, the density in Kensington would be at the kind of urban levels currently only allowed near Metro stops.

You may have heard that those who support the sector plan are promising new shops and restaurants, but what's really in the plan are apartment buildings, some as high as 75 feet.

You can do something before it's too late. Call or write the County Council. They need to hear that you want the plan scaled back. Attend the council meeting on Feb. 28 and visit SaveKensington.com.

CNBC named Kensington the second most perfect suburb in the U.S. Let's unite as neighbors and keep it that way.
