5 Things You Need To Know Today: June 29

Pepco outages, bank robberies and an ode to the waffle iron.

  1. Last night's rain led to more than 100 outages in the Kensington area and more than 1,000 in the whole county, according to Pepco's outage map. If your home lost power, be sure to share your story with us in the comments.
  2. Two Kensington high schoolers received . Jessica Zuniga and Melanie Marguerite Kylis are among 28 seniors in District 8 who received the award.
  3. Over in Bethesda, someone on Bethesda Avenue, the second such robbery in the county this week. On Monday, a man , and police have arrested a suspect in that incident.
  4. The Montgomery County Police Department is advising residents to be wary of door-to-door alarm salespeople who tend to make the rounds in the summer months. Their pitches could be a front for casing your house, police say. We'll have more of MCPD's warnings later today on Kensington Patch.
  5. Lastly, it's National Waffle Iron Day. You probably already knew that, but, just in case, here are some tips on how to celebrate properly.
