5 Things You Need To Know Today: June 27

A handful of facts to get through this fine Monday.

You've got stuff to do; I've got five things you ought to know. Here we go.

1. On Saturday, the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department for its 9/11 memorial, which features a steel beam from the World Trade Center and a slab of limestone from the Pentagon. It was, if I may editorialize, a beautiful ceremony, and I encourage you to check out our pictures and upload your own if you were there with a camera.

2. It's going to be another overcast day, with a high of 89 and a low of 68. The chance of precipitation is just 30 percent, though.

3. In case you were thinking of breaking the law and detonating some fireworks this Fourth of July, fire officials from around the D.C. metro area suggest otherwise. And, to punctuate that point, they . All fireworks are illegal here in Montgomery County, and a citation will set you back $500.

4. Remember , in which a thief slipped into an open garage, got in an unlocked car, found the keys and went for a joyride? Well, the Montgomery County Police Department wants to use the incident as a reminder to keep your home and property safe. More on this, including some tips, is coming later today.

5. Finally, today is National HIV Testing Day, and you can get tested at the county's Health and Human Services office. You can also find other testing sites here.
