Pet Food Recalled After Potential Salmonella Contamination

, a Silver Spring-based pet store, sent out an advisory for a pet food recall Sunday.

The advisory warns pet owners about a voluntary food recall from Diamond Pet Foods (DPF) between Dec. 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012 because of a possible salmonella contamination. Only pet food produced in their South Carolina plant is affected by this recall, according to the advisory.

Diamond brands include:

• Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul
• Country Value
• Diamond
• Diamond Naturals
• Premium Edge
• Professional
• 4Health
• Taste of the Wild

The brands recalled on Friday, May 4 have not tested positive for salmonella, according Diamond Pet Foods.

How do I know if I have a bag affected by the recall?

Turn your bag over and check the production code numbers. If the code has a "2" or "3" in the 9th position and an "X" in the 10th or 11th position, your product is affected by the recall, according to Diamond Pet Recall. If the product you have does not include a "2" or "3" in the 9th position and an "X" in the 10th or 11th position, your product is not affected by the recall, and you can continue to feed it as usual.
