Pacci's Trattoria & Pasticceria to Open in Old General Store Location

Pacci's Trattoria & Pasticceria will be opening at 6 Post Office Road—once the location of the General Store, of Food Network fame.

Pacci’s Trattoria and Pasticceria will be opening in the space once occupied by The General Store, at 6 Post Office Road.

Spiro Gioldasis, the landlord of the building, says he plans to offer Neapolitan Pizza along with Italian pastas, pastries and sandwiches, all under $20.

“Basically, it will be an everyday eatery with every day prices,” Gioldasis said.

The General Store, featured on Food Network several times for its renowned fried chicken, closed more than two months ago amidst an imbroglio between landlord and tenant.

According to representatives for Montgomery County, Gioldasis was behind on his taxes for the building. Gioldasis claims this was due to being unable to collect a sufficient amount of rent from the tenants, who, he said had not paid rent in more than a year. Upon closing the owners Gillian Clark and Robin Smith took to Facebook to explain their side of the story:

“It’s with heavy hearts we’re announcing that The General Store is closed. For the entire 4+ years we’ve been involved with this building we have been bullied by the landlords. The landlord has not paid his back taxes and the county is taking back the building. We want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for being more than just customers. We consider all of you friends,” Clark and Smith wrote on Facebook.

Clark is no stranger to controversy. She drew the ire of Washingtonian food critic Todd Kliman, among others, when she posted videos on her YouTube channel mocking her customers. Kliman, in a Washingtonian chat, had the following to say: “...the main thing for me is, it's not funny. If it were funny, I think it wouldn't be a big deal. It'd be a little like sharing an in-joke with customers. As is, it really does come across as mockery.”

Gioldasis, who also owns two other Silver Spring eateries— and , says his plans for Pacci’s include a more friendly atmosphere.

“I’m known here for a totally different approach to customer service. People love me, and I know what I do there [at my other establishments],” Gioldasis said.

He said the plan is to use fresh ingredients under the supervision of Chef Rosario Granieri, and added that they plan to open in two or three weeks pending the status of paperwork they must submit to Montgomery County.
