JBG Unveils Second Phase of White Flint Project

Site would feature a 26-story apartment building and office space.

JBG Cos. released renderings of the North Bethesda Market II project, the Washington Post reported, which include a 300-foot residential building and offices above a movie theater.

The project, on Rockville Pike between Nicholson Lane and Executive Boulevard, would feature 345 residential units in an inventively designed building across from a 175,000-square-foot office building with a theater on its ground floor. Between the two would be a landscaped plaza.

In all, North Bethesda Market II would offer about 273,000 square feet of office space and 94,000 square feet of retail on the 4.4 acre site, according to sketches submitted to the Planning Department. Studios Architecture is responsible for the design.

The project is still in the sketch-plan phase and requires county approval, but JBG is looking to break ground next year and complete it in 2014, the Post reported.

The planned development is just north of JBG's North Bethesda Market I, which houses a Whole Foods and a 24-story luxury apartment building, the tallest in Montgomery County. North Bethesda Market II's 26-story residential tower would usurp that ranking.

The site is currently home to a Chili's, an office building and a mixed-use retail building. Under JBG's plans, only the office building would remain.
