Bites Nearby: Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company

Each week, Kensington Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company serves up mouth-watering barbeque that will make you think of Texas ... but it is just a quick jaunt across the Kensington-Rockville border.

Many a hungry working stiff heads into the Rockville Pike location for sandwiches and platters by day. The barbequed beef brisket and sliced pork sandwiches are especially good. If you are all about the meat and could care less about the bun, turn a sandwich into a platter and get a bit more meat and salads and sides with it for just four bucks more.

By night families and couples dine on the ribs, ribs, ribs. They have baby back, spare, and Black Angus beef. Feeling extra hungry? Go for "The Belly Buster" — a platter with two kinds of ribs, sausage, a quarter chicken and brisket to boot. (Be sure to wear an elastic waistband.)

Special sides here that you will not find at other barbecue locations include the Texas corn pudding and the minted cucumber salad (it cleanses the palate between meat courses). Feel virtuous in the face of stuffing your face by skipping a beer or sugary soda and instead sipping a San Pelligrino Limonata.

Wintergreen Shopping Center, 891A Rockville Pike, Rockville. 240-268-1120.
