Bites Nearby: Ray's the Classics

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Wheaton Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

There are few meals more decadent and drool-inducing than a steak dinner with all the trimmings. Unfortunately, there are also few dinners that are more expensive.

Thankfully, Ray's the Classics in Silver Spring is that all-too-rate combination of top quality steaks, innovative sides and reasonable prices. I personally believe that these steaks are better than many of the large chain steak houses in the area.

Ray's philosophy of serving natural, farm-raised, hand-carved beef with accessible price points makes it extremely popular with local diners. And it has become a dining destination for District and Virginia residents as well.

The menu has not changed much since the restaurant opened, Ray's sticks with the (ahem) classics that have made it so well-loved. The famous decadent sauces for steaks such as brandy mushroom cream, Béarnaise or bleu cheese and mushroom are a must-order. Whether you are a filet, rib eye or New York strip lover, all cuts can be ordered with peppercorn, Cajun or garlic treatments.

Of course you could also order seafood or make a meal out of the side dishes alone. The creamed spinach and four cheese mac are particularly rich and worth every sinful calorie.
