Bites Nearby: Pho Hung

Each week, Kensington Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

Pho Hung in Aspen Hill serves up a steaming bowl of awesome in its freshly-made pho.

I have never been disappointed with a meal I have gobbled down at Pho Hung. I waver between ordering the all-white breast meat pho ga (chicken) or pho tai (lean beef). My kids love the pho with meatballs, and my more adverturous dining mates have informed me that soups with tripe and other beef cuts are also delish.

And vegetarians, listen up: This is one of the few pho joints in Montgomery County that lists vegetarian pho on their menu. The owner informed me that the broth is 100 percent vegetarian, and for your protein, you receive large succulent cubes of tofu.

This restaurant also features delicious lunch specials and entrees, a big plus if some members of your party are hankering for soup while others want to dig into a big rice or noodle plate. The skewered lemongrass chicken and fried pork dumplings are out of this world. Pho Hung's steamed spring roll starters are also very good, served with a generous portion of peanut dipping sauce on the side.
