Bites Nearby: Olney Ale House

Each week, Kensington Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

Casually relaxed but special: that is the vibe of a dinner at Olney Ale House. And autumn is the perfect time to dine here and take full advantage of both the roaring fire in the dining room and the sipping of a draft in the beer garden.

People from all over Montgomery and close-in Howard Counties make the drive to this adorable inn that claims to have "the feel of a traditional Irish pub and the historic American roadhouse." In addition to the warm environment, several dishes on the menu are also drive-worthy.

The Ale House Stew is the most celebrated item on the menu and it is savory and made from scratch daily. It is also the perfect vehicle for dipping a hunk of homemade oatmeal molasses bread. Regulars memorize the daily specials, with standouts being half-priced burgers on Tuesday all day, New York strip on Wednesday nights and pot roast and potatoes on Sundays all day.

The Olney Ale House is also a great place to drop in for a brew after a day of apple picking, pumpkin-patching or other traditional fall activity. The bar offers about 20 ever-changing seasonal beers on tap.
