Bites Nearby: Jackie's Restaurant
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in, but we've got a better idea. Each week, Kensington Patch picks a great restaurant, either in town or nearby, that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:
— From the ceiling hangs decor, seemingly lifted from the set of "Austin Powers;" along the bar sit some of Silver Spring's most funky evening-goers; and in the dining area, next to a wonderfully active exposed kitchen, are those who were smart enough to make a reservation.
This is Jackie's (8081 Georgia Ave.), where the scene is half the appeal. But fear not, should you fail to call ahead, the full menu ($16-$28 for entrées) is available in the bar/lounge area, where a few small tables sit off in the corner. Chef Diana Davila-Boldin, who came on board as executive chef last April, has designed a new American menu featuring local organic ingredients. Be certain to try the truffle fries and pork carnitas tacos, and do yourself a favor and order a cocktail or four. Jackie's has hopped on the cocktail renaissance train, and the results are fantastic.
